By Aasawari Shenolikar Some were apprehensive when they stepped inside the huge hall where tables were set, induction cooktops were on and sparkling sets of utensils and cutlery was neatly placed. Others sauntered in with a sprightly step. But after three hours, when they all left the premises of Hotel Centre Point, they left with a huge grin and a bag full of delicious desserts that they had prepared. All the action happened at The Hitavada Twinkle Club’s first of it’s kind event the Dessert Master Class where kids in the age group of 10 to 16 participated in a workshop aimed at teaching them the basics of pastry, chocolates and making their own cake. Under the able guidance and strict eye of Chef Kunal Arolkar, a pastry chef with Michelin exposure and ten years of active experience in the food industry, hundreds of children in two batches, learnt how to prepare mouth watering, lip smacking desserts. It was good to see that there was a fair smattering of boys also who tried their hand on the kitchen tops. Of them, a few were regularly cooking at home and so didn’t have any problem holding the spoon and stirring the contents in the pot. For others, even this simple chore assumed gargantuan proportion. Once Chef Kunal started delivering the instructions, each one listened in rapt attention and followed his directives. And such was the dedication and passion of the kids in both the batches that each recipe turned out just perfect. The strawberry jelly, the mango pannacotta and the three-layered sponge that the kids decorated with chocolate flakes and layered with whipped cream and chocolate ganache were easy to make and super delicious. Each participant got to take home portions of the recipes cooked by him. Chef Kunal who has a lot of experience in the Food & Beverage industry gave tips on pastry cooking and decorating cakes. His lively interactive session with the kids helped them become Master Chefs in the Master Class, and the same will continue in tomorrow’s batches when the kids wield knives and spatulas, piping bags and egg beaters where they will try their hand at something very delicious. Tauby Bhagwaghar who is known for her Sinful Delights was present on the occasion and lent a helping hand wherever needed. Tauby’s are the co-sponsors for the event. The chocolate is provided by Goldsmith Food Products. And the hospitality is being provided by Hotel Centre Point. Dinshaws made the conclusion of the workshop sweeter when they gave lips-smacking chocolate ice cream to one and all. Archana Purohit, Director of The Hitavada, Vijay Phanshikar Editor, Samir Wankhede Advertising Manager and others from The Hitavada worked hard and ensured that the event was a mega success!
